Dolphin This fish is also commonly called dolphin fish, dorado or mahi-mahi and is not to be confused with the dolphin in the porpoise family. The dolphin is easily recognizable by its characteristic shape and color. The males, which grow largest in size, have high vertical foreheads and the smaller head of the female is more rounded. The Dolphins colors are one of the most spectacular of all fish in the sea. When alive, the fish's back is an irridescent blue or blue green, while the longer dorsal fin is a rich blue. The anal end is gold or silvery white and the other fins are yellow and edged with blue. The Dolphins sides glow gold, bluish gold or silvery gold and carry a scattering of dark and white colored spots which range in color from golden to dark blue and black. The fish's under belly is silvery white or yellow. After death the dolphin fish's color transforms to uniformly yellow or silvery gray. |
